Micro-SL Continues

Thunderbird Island now contains land detail and structures/vegetation of about 1/5th normal scale.  Also, testing has begun on an aircraft about 1/6th normal scale, with a miniaturized Avatar to pilot it.

The effect is astounding… The sim has the feel of TWENTY FIVE normal sims for air combat.  Moving to a 1/6th scale will push that to 36 Sim Aparent Size (SAS).

So far, only my friend Nexus and I have fought in the micro planes, though there is room for many more now…  a 10 plane fight would not be a problem at all, in terms of size.  I just need 8 more pilots!

The primary limitation seems to be the avatar itself.  A custom made and radically folded avatar seems to allow for about a 1/6th scale vehicle.  Getting smaller will be quite a technical challange which I will leave for others to work on.

Micro-SL

First things first.  Spike you rule.  Ty for the blog and all of the most awesome things you do.  Especially, thank you for Celebrity Jeopardy (smiles)

Next.  Here is a concept for you to chew on, Second Life ‘ers…

Land.

Apart from property rights… land itself is the next most important thing in SL.  Pull up a chair, and lemmie ’splain something to ya.  It’s kind of a math thing… so listen close.  I can quadruple your land area…. FOR FREE.  Instantly.

Here it is:  If you make your avatar one-half the height it is… the world will be FOUR TIMES LARGER.  Take a walk with me….

Micro-Second Life (MSL)tm

We change our scale… the scale of the world changes as well…

WE HAVE CONTROL OF THE SIZE OF SL.

To a miniature Avatar…. 50% normal height… he would have to walk twice as far west to east as normal height…  and twice as far north to south.  Say you own a sim, but due to your small stature you have to walk 2x as far east-west…. AND north-south… suddenly you realize.  Your sim is QUADRUPLED IN AREA. (2×2 = 4 right?)

And More… the SL limits on linked objects… about 30 meters, are now TWICE AS FAR (in effect)… seeming like a 60 meter link range.

In the coming weeks and months, I will be erecting an area for arial combat… with miniature/scaled planes… flying in a volume that, because of a smaller avatar size, is > 4 times what it is now, on my one sim island.

Come to Thunderbird Island to see what a smaller avatar can really mean to your sl experience.

When you realize that you can change the world… by merely changing you… you will be astounded at the possibilities.

Coming:  A definition for a “Micro SL” Standard (formally setting a new scale definition), and methods to market the new scale.  I will propose a new scale for second life, based on the “Tiny” avatar size… roughly 1/3rd of the size of a normal person (which translates to a 900% increase in the size of land!)  I will also be talking about prim density issues… where nine times the land will still have the same prim count… translation, lower prim densities are unavoidable (but may be a GOOD THING).

This exciting redefinition of SL scale will radically change the SL world.  Of course there will always be a need to have your full sized avatar, but a day may come when most of the places you visit will actually be “MICRO” or “MSL” designed… where objects and avatars of standard size simply won’t fit in.

Go Micro SL:    think small.   ask me how.
