The ZOMG story…
It’s in my SL store, it’s on the front page of the OpalsForSale.info website, and likely I talk to most people about it. What is so special about this opal I call ZOMG?
Here’s a little history on it. When I was first starting out, I was at the mercy of whatever sort of rock I go when I ordered rough because I couldn’t afford anything but the cheap stuff.
This is a picture of an ounce of material that I got from Murray and Australian Opal Mines for $7.50:

The rock circled in red had some color, but wasn’t as interesting to me as some of the other material, in addition it was a bit of a trapezoid in shape, so wasn’t something I wanted to tackle immediately. As such the rock sat for a while, ignored.
One day, when I was bored, I decided to see just what I could do with this one, so I cut a little of the faces of the stone. The following was revealed:

My exclamation was something that is best left unsaid, and was not suitable for a name for this opal, and so ZOMG became it’s designation.
After a lot of planning and observation, I cut it down to a really nice cabichon that in person is a wonderful thing to hold.

From boring to bright. A good example of why you put “boring” rocks in a pile and go through them later, as opposed to just throwing them away thinking they are not worth anything.
Addendum: Sad ending. While it was beautiful for quite some time, this stone has now lost much of it’s color as it has nearly crazed over completely. Really dissapointing.
